What is Sizecraft

All the way back in 2015 or so I was hosting a Minecraft server for a group of friends in a Steam Group called "Gensokyo's Towering Sirens", or GTS for short. Those of you who have been on the internet for any amount of time know exactly the kind of content hosted shared in that Steam group, hence, "sizecraft".

Fast forward to 2016 and Discord's meteoric rise in popularity among gamers and niche communities all over the web. All the members jumped ship and we retreated to a few Discord servers.

Being a CS major and relatively into the FOSS space, I had had an eye on Matrix for a while and watched the protocol evolve from its humble, ambitious, beginnings, to a somewhat usable state. On a whim in late 2019, I decided to set up a server on a whim. I had some experience with running IRC servers, but as great as IRC is, it is simply insufficient for the average person's needs. As I didn't plan for this to by any more than a limited experiment I didn't purchase a new domain. Well, we all started to like Matrix and quite a few people stuck around, and I discovered that I was unable to change the domain name without losing all previous history, at least not without some really ugly and potentially destructive hacks. And so, Sizecraft.
